Aug 29, 2008 10:04 AM in response to Brett Lby GYamane,I opened up a case with Apple last week and referred the Apple Care person to TS1258. He told me that the documented fix was a screen replacement. I referred him to this discussion and told him I would waste my time and would not send in my MBP if that is what they would do. I have not gotten back to Apple. -
Aug 29, 2008 12:24 PM in response to Brett Lby epdoc74,I first posted my problems on this site on August 3rd. Thereafter I contacted AppleCare and talked with someone who seemed very helpful and suggested sending in my MBP. There were snafus with Apple sending the box for me to return the computer to an OLD address (NOT in my "profile" database info available for me to change, and in spite of over 2 hours on the phone with reps to expunge this defunct address, when Apple returned the "repaired" computer, again it went to that same old address which were irritating, but worse, the enclosed paperwork said "unable to reproduce the problem" - so NOTHING was done. I had it back and within one day had experienced the vertical stripe problem 6 or 8 times. I called again, referencing Technical Bulletin TS1258, and talked at length with an AppleCare person, and am currently awaiting their decision as to what to do NOW. They continue to state that it is a "software problem" interacting with new (Video) Hardware.
I just want it fixed. Luckily I bought the 3 year AppleCare protection, so I'm hoping within 3 years there will be a true fix or replacement available. -
Aug 29, 2008 2:02 PM in response to epdoc74by Jethml,Haven't had the vertical stripes problem since the end of July and thought it was over. Unfortunately it is not. Tonight it started again. I am really devastated. Why is this so difficult to fix??? Why does this not have top priority? Seems like a lot of good customers are having this problem. -
Aug 29, 2008 2:34 PM in response to Brett Lby ddh60,I went to my place of purchase in Melbourne Australia.
Gave the story... They knew nothing.
They said I was the only one who had come in with this and that they were the largest seller in Australia.
I gave them a 150 page print out of the discussion.(Sorry trees but I needed a dramatic statement)
Was told they needed to do tests. I replied that they were unlikely to find the solution and that they needed to do some spade work before I just gave them my machine for "tests".
Then, in front of the manager, the machine lid was opened and the stripes were there for his own eyes. He agreed to look into it.
A day later I had the screen replaced "Your serial number indicates that the screen needs to be replaced." Their service, once they got on board, was very good and what I have come to expect.
So far, 6 starts from sleep, so good, but I'll keep you "posted".
Quoting the TS number helped. -

Sep 1, 2008 2:25 PM in response to Brett Lby mdelvecchio,i have a MBP from early 2008, it exhibits this problem. so to get it fixed, is it a known-solution to simply initiate a repair/return while citing TS1258?
thanks,

Sep 2, 2008 9:08 PM in response to Brett Lby CGDesigns,Just bought my new macbook today and discovered this display issue. Used the fix control-shift-eject and it did fix it. Temporary no doubt. Disappointing, but perhaps I will return this unit as I don't want a display problem popping up after warranty.
Any additional help would be great.
Thanks

Sep 3, 2008 12:05 AM in response to CGDesignsby groovearchitect,hi jamie sorry to hear that. i suggest at least calling or going back to the store.
to all, i guess this makes clear that the apple story that it was just a certain batch becomes very unlikely.. models as old as early 2008 to ones bought yesterday have the same problem.
APPLE SUPPORT WHERE ARE YOU? -
Sep 3, 2008 7:46 AM in response to Brett Lby Mac Cardi,I used to read and post to this thread months ago.
Advice: ask for your screen to be replaced.
I had the stripes on an end-of-march MBP and after two screen exchanges I have never seen them again (despite all the attempts I made to replicate them).

Sep 3, 2008 1:08 PM in response to Brett Lby rc51,I just purchased a 15" MBP and have noticed that same thing. If it powers up with the stripes they seem to remain but if it powers up with out them then things are good.
This is my first MAC and I had such high hopes...very disapointing. -
Sep 4, 2008 12:07 PM in response to Brett Lby sin4me,Hmm, glad I found this forum. My display has been experiencing this behavior since I got in July. I thought it was just my machine, but apparently not. I'm considering taking it in to have the display replaced (?) by referencing TS1258 but am hesitant that I may end up with additional issues afterward. Crazy. -
Sep 4, 2008 2:51 PM in response to Brett Lby Ehych,Another one, it just happened to me yesterday, my MBP was bought the same day it was announced, so it's from the first batch, never had any problem until yesterday, which was triggered by waking my MBP. -
Sep 5, 2008 5:20 PM in response to Ehychby fxbulldog,I am also just noticing the stripes ... purchases my mbp in early July 2008 ... I will post again if I can added different information that helps -
Sep 6, 2008 9:57 AM in response to Brett Lby Spatio,Hello All,
Same story for me. Exactly same stripes here and there.
Just to let you know guys, I am in France and got my MBP last month. So this is not any regional issue. Problem is global here, and obviously not solved on the latest deliveries.
I am also questionning myself : repairing or not ?
Good luck to you, and Come on Apple : match your reputation ! -
