I had no stripe during six months, and since yesterday the stripes are coming back. 3 times in few hours ! What can be the logic of this ?

    Me Too!

One thing different from all other posts I've read (and I've read most of you - from the beginning), This problem occurred for me when:

    Power adapter was connected
backscreen was coloured (ie not the white screen that all of you have reported)
and while watching a digital movie (about 45 mins into it)...

This is the first time I've noticed it, and this is a 6 month old machine.

I have one of the infamous Nvidia Graphics chips (GeForce 8600M GT) and have noticed that it always runs at least 10 degrees (celcius) higher than everything else internally.

I'm surprised there is not solution yet. Is this really the Apple quality we thought we were investing into? I just reluctantly switched from PC... I'm not sure it was such a good idea given the money spent.

Has there been any resolution from Apple?

Unfortunately not. My machine was purchased early-summer and I've been experiencing the problem since about august.

Just adding my name to the list of people having this problem.
I got my MBP in September 2008 and started having this problem a few weeks in.
It didn't happen for quite some time but it has started happening again.
i used to do a re-start and it always sorted it out but but i'd rather not have to do that every time.
gonna try the alt>shift>eject trick next time it happens which will be much quicker but still, very very annoying.

This is beginning to tick me off. This issue has popped up more and more over the holidays and still no fix.

I too have this problem. I bought my MBP in March 08' and have been following this thread and the original thread for this issue from time to time. I can't believe that there is no fix yet.

When "adding my name to the list" do you just do this here? Or do you have to formally log complaint with Apple?

I first noticed this effect in August - I bought the MBP in Apr 08.

I haven't seen it for months so sort of forgot about it then yesterday back.
Strangely I;ve never managed to "create" it with Photobooth.

I had my MacBook Pro sent in for repair in October. It went in for broken keyboard / trackpad and also the screen issue. I hadn't had any issues with the screen until the 29th December when it suddenly appeared again and I get the issue a few times a day now.

I have had that many problems with this machine (seven in total) and spent roughly 12 hours on the phone to Apple care over the machines short life.

I am starting to lose my patience with the machine.

Count me in as another one. New early 2008 model purchased new directly from Apple in October 2008. Have had the problem twice. Both were when battery was low. IIRC, both were when laptop was plugged in after very low, sleep battery hibernation mode.

    Resleeping fixed it both times.

Hope it's not a harbinger of continual problems. No Apple store nearby. And I was just near one over the holidays-- oh, well, wouldn't you know it would happen after I came back!

    Hi,

I've a problem : the trick with Photo Booth to reproduce the problem doesn't work since the 10.5.6.

Could you confirm that it is the same for you ? This is annoying, as I wanted to give my MBP back before the end of guarantee. It is very hard now to reproduce the problem at the moment you need it !

My Mac store won't even touch me because I can't reproduce it when I need to.

Here's my thread.. with screenshot. It's happening right now.

I am unfortunately passed my return period otherwise it would have been boxed back up and sent back...

I just got back from my apple store, they are replacing the screen. Hopefully it fixes the issue.

I have this problem also. I purchased the computer in Australia middle of 2008. Same effect as photos in this thread. It happened 3 times after opening from sleep state over a few days.

I noticed one thing that seems different - the screen would stay quite dim after sleep (with brightness settings cranked up). The vertical lines appeared slowly, not instantly. A restart solved it, but next time I will try ctrlshifteject as suggested here.

Is this a hardware fault or software issue? Should I take it in to apple? I can't reproduce the problem using photobooth.

Coming in to report a friend of mine harbors another Macbook Pro 2008 with the same problem. Tragic, considering I actually read this article not too long ago for the sake of recent happenings, and there I walked in today and found his hardly six month Macbook with the described stage-lit LCD look going on…

It's sad to see Apple products actually hitting this low of a level after all these years. I was going to encourage a relative of mine to buy a Macbook as her first computer ever, but after all this (and other potentially lockable discussion boards) I might tell her to hold off the purchase -- and that's coming from a lifetime Apple user. Sorry, Apple.
