Frequent kernel panics -- can't figure it out...

Hi everyone,

I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum. I'm having a real problem with kernel panics on my Intel iMac. It's been going on ever since I bought my Intel iMac about 2 years ago, but it only happens when I use my music sequencing programs -- either Logic Pro 8 (or 7) or Digital Performer 5.11. In the past, I wasn't using the programs all that often, and so I just lived with the problem. But, I'm getting busier and busier in my composing studio, and therefore it's becoming a much bigger problem.

Today, I had 5 kernel panics which forced me to reboot my computer each time. A few minutes ago, I found a log on my computer called "panic.log", and so in an effort to understand what's going on with my computer, I'm hoping to get some feedback on the contents of today's log.

Here it is:

None of this makes sense to me, although I do recognize the reference to the MOTU driver at the end of each entry. I've suspected for a long time that it may have something to do with either a MIDI driver or my audio I/O, since these kernel panics happen only when I'm using my sequencing programs, and never while using any other program.

So, does this confirm my suspicion? Or is each entry telling me something else? I hope the above information makes sense to someone here who can then interpret it to me! 🙂

Thanks!
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Everything you need to know about a kernel panic is right here:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

One other suggestion is to download and install a new MOTU driver. Perhaps the one you have is corrupted, it happens.

Your Panic Logs also include a reference to "USB".

Kernal panics are usually caused by a hardware problem - frequently RAM or USB devices. What USB devices do you have connected, other than your keyboard & mouse. How is your mouse connected - to kbd, to Mac or wireless?

May be a solution on one of these links.
