iPhone calendar sync issues with Outlook

I have a problem with syncing my iPhone calendar with my Outlook 2003 calendar.

For example, let's say I had a 12pm appointment today displaying both in my outlook and iPhone. However, when I sync my iPhone after the event e.g. at 3pm, the appointment entry in the Outlook is removed, whilst the appointment entry on my phone remains. I did not edit either of the appointment entries. Even if I re-sync my phone, the 12pm appointment still remains in my phone whilst it's missing in my Outlook.

Are there others encountering the same problem as well? Any ways to fix this problem? Thanks

3G iPhone, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

This is happening to lots of people. For some reason, appointments added in the iPhone are "hidden" in the day/week/month view of Outlook. If you switch to an "all appointments" view, they are there. There is a workaround that seems to work - going into the appointment, setting it as "recurring", saving it, and then removing the recurrence. It will show up in the calendar view then. Most people don't have time to do that with every appointment.

A similar problem is occurring with appointments added directly to Outlook disappearing once the time has passed. Same thing - they are hidden from the normal calendar view, but are in the "all appointments" view.

Apple has not even indicated that they acknowledge the problem exists, despite the fact that it is reported on multiple threads here, on Howard Forums, Macrumors, etc.

One observation. The problem only occurs if I sync my phone on the same day of the appointment. Let's say my appointment is today at 12pm and I sync my phone at 2pm on the same day, it will be removed from my Outlook calendar. However, if I don't sync my phone until the next day say at 12pm, then the problem does not occur for that appointment.

I suppose this problem only applies to appointments which occurs on the same day of your sync.

Robsw gave a good summary of the problem, as well as one of the workarounds that some people have tried. If you've found a pattern that makes your sync work, go for it, but ultimately, you shouldn't have to think about what time or day it is every time you sync your iPhone. Everyone who's having this problem is hoping that Apple issues a fix ASAP. Reliable calendar syncing is essential and right now, many of us do not have that with our iPhones. Unfortunately, Apple has remained silent about this problem.

This problem is unacceptable. Why is Apple not responding to it??? Palm, Blackberry, Windows Mobile OS and countless others have SUCCESSFULLY gotten this right for years!! I totally don't understand how they screwed this one up SO BAD?? Did they NOT test the dam software and version updates prior to release? The fact that they have yet to acknowledge the problem officially makes it even worse. Hopefully there are many who just bought the 3G and are within thier "return window" so they can unload these useless paper weights.

This just happened to me and it is bad.

Apple, this is bad.

I keep track of all the work for my department in an Outlook 2007 calendar and need to know it is up to date. What is the fix here? I have several, seemingly random, items disappearing from my shared calendar. I can see them on my iPhone, but the people these tasks are assigned to cannot and I cannot see them on my desktop.

Well, this problem just gets stranger. I went ahead and resynced with MobileMe, and all of my calendar events (even the ones that are "hidden" in day/week/month view showed up on the cloud. I then entered two appointments -- one in the iPhone, the other in MobileMe. After manually syncing, but appointments showed up in Outlook.

And then, 10 minutes later, both disappeared again. Of course, both appointments are visible on the "Outlook Today" screen, but not in the day/week/month view.

There is clearly some bug with the way Apple is importing contacts into Outlook. I have reinstalled iTunes, reset sync data, etc.

So Apple really needs to get on this ASAP. Has anyone called tech support? What are they telling people?

I've talked to them. Very helpful, but no solution. The iPhone Specialist I spoke to had not heard of the problem before. At one point he put me on hold and came back to say that he had checked with some people and they had heard of this "emerging" problem but had no answers. He admitted that all problems are "emerging" problems, given that the product has been out for only 2 weeks. We tried a variety of things with no success. I had to tell him about the manual workaround - going into each appointment, setting it to recur, etc. This does make it reappear, but isn't practical for those of us with tons of appointments. I'm not shocked that they don't want to acknowledge this, given that calendar synching is so important to their targeted business customer base. It's hard to believe that they could have screwed up something that every other manufacturer seems to be able to do well and that is at the same time so critical to business users.

I have also spent a lot of time trying to fix this problem. I have called Apple twice, once they said Mobile Me isn't something they can assist with and the second time I was transfered to a "Product Specialist" and spent an hour plus on the phone with him and still nothing. He also said that he has heard a of some similar problems. He told me the only help he could direct me to was the Mobile Me support, which is an online chat which is ALWAYS busy.

Has anyone got through to the Mobile Me chat support?

I just upgraded to 2.0 and did not have this syncing problem with the previous version so Apple messed up when they upgraded their software. They had it working just fine before!
I tried the repeat option and it synced. However when I deleted the repeat and sync'd again, the original went away on my computer along with the others but remained on my computer.
When I add an appt on my computer and change it on the phone, the change goes to Outlook (figure that one out!).
On the phone with support now. Will update again later if they have any solution but from what I can tell from this guy...probably not going to happen.

I too am having the exact same issue. I actually opened an IT item at my company to see if they might be able to get a better response from Apple (I work for a large company that currently does not support iPhone, but Apple would really like for us to). Any help here would be appreciated.

I tried editing the appointments on the iPhone that have disappeared from Outlook and that did make them reappear in Outlook; however after another sync and a few minutes, they would disappear again.

I am having a similar problem with Outlook 2007. If I enter an appointment into the iphone calendar and then sync to Outlook the appointment does not appear in the "Day/Week/Month" view, however, it does show up in the "All Appointments view". In Outlook click on the "View" button, then click on "current view" and then "all appointments" and scroll to the date of the appointment you entered on your iphone and see if it's there. I am having no problems with syncing items originally put into Outlook. They transfer okay everytime. It's just the items that are first entered into the iphone don't sync to the "Day/Week/Month view in Outlook. My contact syncing is working both ways! I can't wait for a fix to the problem.

Having the same problem. What I add on my iPhone isn't in sync with my Outlook 2007 in Day/Week/Month view. MobileMe, tried it today. The cloud calendar is synched, but still Outlook 2007 is not totally correct. MobileMe is also worthless for email because you can't use your normal work address. So I gotta remember to cancel that crap or lose another $100 to Apple. Apple, issue a fix quickly.

I had decided to upgrade our phones to 3G iPhones when they came out for all of my sales staff because it worked so well for the past year.(my business partner and myself had used 1st gen. iPhone for the past year) The 3Gs all sold out quickly and fortunately there was, and still is, a wait for them.

I say fortunately because after upgrading to the 2.0 / 7.7 I'm glad I didn't shell out the $1200.00 it would have cost to get 6 of them. This is a nightmare.

We don't know who is visiting which clients or leads or even if everyone is being taken care of. The list view is a pain because our admin. has to look at the calendar view and cross referance what she sees with the list view and I had to leave her my phone yesterday so she could also make sure she wasn't missing anything.

Sorry Apple, but were done with this. Microsoft and Outlook had it's problems in the past but NEVER had us down for more than a day. We can't afford to wait any longer.
