arranging icons - alphabetical order backward

When I arrange my desktop icons by name, the first item appears in the lower right-hand corner -- then the rest are in reverse alphabetical order, moving up and to the left. How can I get them in proper alph. order?

Anyone have any thoughts on this -- the "arrange" or "organize" function in view is placing my desktop icons in reverse alphabetical order, starting from the lower-right corner of the screen and moving up?

I've trained myself to think Z to A, but there must be a more user - friendly solution ...

The thought I have is that you really shouldn't keep a ton of things on your Desktop. Make yourself a folder and put the files in the folder, then set the folder to Icon view, keep arranged by name. The items will be automatically arranged by name, starting in the upper left corner. You might even notice an improvement in Finder responsiveness. The more stuff you have on the Desktop, the more work the WindowServer has to do, and the slower the Finder will respond. You can actually reach a point where Finder doesn't seem to respond at all....drop a few thousand items accidently on the Desktop (as people sometimes do) and it will seem that your computer has come to a screeching halt.
