Process named "Racoon"

We are running 10.5.4 on our iMac C2D and are very pleased with our system.

However, I watch activity monitor pretty closely and have noted a new "process" call Racoon that I hadn't seen in prior releases. It doesn't take up much cpu or memory, but does anyone know what it does or why it's there?
