Audio sounds like it's underwater when going to STP and noise reduction

Hi folks,

Is there a better explanation to the effect I hear when i use the noise reduction on a clip?

When I dial up the reduction it sounds like gurgling, weather I have a stereo or mono clip. Like it's phase shifting. Underwater... I'm sure you've all heard it, I just don't know if I should be reducing a tiny bit of the noise at a time and just repeat it till it sounds best...?

thanks.

Hi, it's very difficult to remove noise from audio files. If re-recording is an option then you should always go for that.

On your problem, the software can't distinguish between what is 'noise' and what isn't and so it simply removes/reduces certain frequencies. Sadly those frequencies will also contain some of your vocal and it will start to sound choppy.

Check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFuqTYXkVik for a quick guide.

The only other option is if the noise comes from the power line hum. On the left hand side under the 'Analysis' tab, there's a checkbox for Power Line Hum, check this and click Analyse.
