iPhoto 7.1.4 won't print

Question

iPhoto 7.1.4 won't print

Installed iPhoto 7.1.4, but now I can't print. Sez there are no themes available. But they are in the root library Application Support folder—and the app lives in the root application folder. Copied themes into ~/Library/Application Support/iPhoto just to see and it didn't help. Tried all the usual fixes: repair permissions, restarted app and OS, etc.

MacFixIt say tI'd find a Theme folder in ~/Library/Application Support/iPhoto and to copy it to /Library/Application Support/iPhoto. But I didn't have onenthere to begin with just in ~/Library/Application Support/iPhoto.

Reloaded 7.1.3 off another machine (on vacation and don't have disk) but now it still won't print.

Anyone have an thoughts?

I'm having the same issue. Once I installed the latest verion of iPhoto, printing yields an error regarding missing themes. I reinstalled from the iLife DVD, and still no luck...

Restoring iPhoto Themes

First look in your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If you find it there move it to the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder and reboot. Then try iPhoto again. That may save you having to go thru the reinstallation process described below:

1 - delete the current application.

2 - delete any files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in your HD/Library/Receipts folder.

3 - delete the Themes folder from your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder. Also look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there then delete it also.

5 - boot into the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.

After installing reinstall the iPhoto 7.1.1 updater again followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime, 7.3.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

The iPhoto themes were in the correct folders initially, so I followed the complete removal/reinstallation sequence that you described, and the systems works perfectly now.

I have a similar problem. Tried your delete procedures and still had the same problem. Even if this did work the thought of doing this on my other four machines fills me with dread.

Not a big issue at the moment as I normally use Aperture which works fine. Can I assume that Apple are working on an update for the update? If so I will wait!

There was a recent iPhoto, and other iApp update so don't look for one soon.

So reinstalling iPhoto after deleting all of those files and folders mentioned above and updating to 7.1.4 didn't work?

Thanks for prompt reply.
I did everything mentioned in your detailed process. Reinstalled iphoto from Life08 CD. *At this point I tried iphoto and when I selected print nothing happened*. So did I miss some files I spotlighted and deleted all iphoto references? When I updated to iphoto 7.1.4 I got the "Missing themes" message.

Did you look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder to see if the Themes folder was present? That's the default location for it. Have you rebooted since reinstalling iPhoto?

Hello again.

The themes folder is in the HD/library/application support/iphotofolder. and I have rebooted and restarted. There is no themes folder in user /library/application support. In fact there is no iphoto folder here at all.

I’m ready to croak. Hopped all over my system deleting the application, files in receipt folder, and themes in the Application Support folder. Reinstalled from system disc, and still doesn’t print.

Update on iMac worked a tad better. No problems there.

Downloaded and reinstalled update 10.5.4 combo followed by permission repair.

Loaded iphoto tried to print and gat same message about missing themes.

Be at a loss no more! Having rerun upgrade 10.5.4.combo I then went back to your original instructions re deleting pkgs etc. SUCCESS!!
