Freezing and Beeping and Stopping! Oh My! Please help!

My son has been getting frequent messages past day or so to "restart computer."

When I logged on, the iMac froze. So I pushed the start button until it shut down. Then it started beeping loud three times in a row, then pause, then 3 beeps again.

It wouldn't stop beeping, so I unplugged it. Then plugged back in, and it wouldn't start at all!! completely dead!

After a half hour or so, it started and seems to be working normally.

I ran verify disk and repair permissions, No problems found.

My iMac is about 5 months old. I added 4 GBs ram when first purchased, and it's been working fine for the whole time. Updated to 10.5.4 with no problems. No problems at all until this.

Any ideas?

iMac Intel Core 2, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Hello jester999

That sounds like a ram issue, maybe one of the modules has become dislodged and needs to be reseated! If reseating the ram does not solve the problem, then try one module at a time or the original ram! When inserting ram, push real hard with both thumbs until you feel the module seat into place!

Thanks, You are Right!! it was a ram issue. Tried reseating and etc. Ran a software program "Rember" that tests ram, and my computer crashed.

Finally I took out the ram and reinstalled the factory ram stick that came with the computer. No problems since then.

I sent back the faulty RAM to Crucial, and they are sending me new RAM. Will report back after I reinstall the new RAM.
