restore disk from carbon copy cloner sparse disk image using disk utility

How do you restore a disk from a sparse disk image file that was created by either carbon copy cloner or super duper using disk utility?

It seems that whenever I go into disk utility from my installer dvd and try to restore a disk the source image must be a disk image and not a sparse image.

Is it possible to restore a disk from a sparse image?

I'm trying to do this in both leopard and tiger. Would there be any difference between these?

I found the answer to the super duper restore here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=328607

and I found the answer to the ccc restore here

http://www.bombich.com/software/docs/CCCHelp/content/dimages.html#dimages.html_r estore

The problem with ccc is that you must:

first boot from another installation of Mac OS X and:

1. Install Mac OS X and CCC onto an external USB or Firewire hard drive
2. Boot from that external hard drive and launch CCC

This is not the case with sd - making it, imo, quite worth the price of the sw.
