iPhone 3G Reception Problems? You're Not Alone - Continued

Thread too long??? More like thread too long might draw too much media attention. If you log in it breaks it down into pages. If not for media purposes can you please sticky the other thread so it doesn't get lost in the pages?

The reset didn't work for me either, still dropping calls when switching from 3g to edge. This whole experience is a bummer!

btw, full 5 bars on 3g after sim card change. I'm in Clearwater fl.

EDIT: change your sim card,att users. I now have 4 and 5 bars on 3g where I previously only had 1 or 2, including a hospital room.

It's in the news. I'm tired of the drop calls when switching. Hopefully at&t and apple will do something about it soon.

I have 2 iPhone 3gs and I have terrible reception. I would not recommend this phone to anyone. The OS is slow and laggy. The songs skip when they work fine on my MacBook Pro and iPod Nano.

If an update doesn't fix it, we'll be lucky if they did a silent recall. a million iPhone will cost too much.

I see you live in Elk Grove. We are up in Roseville. Did you go to AT&T and get your SIM replaced? If you haven't... please try it! Once they insert the new SIM and re-register your phone... you should be good-to-go!

I have not been down in the Elk Grove area, but for us up here... its now awesome.

Any chance you can pop your SIM and jot down the numbers that show up on the contact side? Curious if there's a new model number out there.

I went to one local store yesterday for a swap and my new SIM was the same type as the old, with the same effects. Now that I'm on a new phone (with what's now my third SIM) I'm curious if there's some obvious external difference before trying again, if it's just a bunch of funky SIMs that shipped with the phones, or if it's just the process of getting a new SIM that is helping some folks.

Getting out of the house is painful, so I'm trying to minimize my trips, and frankly I'm getting a little worn down by all these shots in the dark. I'm tempted to call the Roseville store to see if they have any advice for dealing with my local folks! Getting the exact terminology from "the inside" would help greatly.

Yes, have tried a sim swap. I have a trouble ticket open with at&t, they are suppose to get back to me by the 29th. If it's not fix by then I'll go back for a sim swap again.

All three of my SIMs actually have the same model number as your new SIM, 71234 O 4022.

Think I might give one last call to AT&T to see about the "update" folks have mentioned, but will otherwise wait it out for a couple weeks. I'm very frustrated but have other fish to fry and this is taking up way too much time.

Hopefully the tech that checks out my local tower can wave a magic wand. I may just live in a pocket of bad signal, though I don't really buy that given the great reception I had with my 1st gen iPhone.

AT&T phone rep indicated they were pretty slammed by new iPhones, so it may just take time for them to catch up. I wish they didn't have to, but I also want a pet unicorn that turns garbage into 104 octane unleaded while doing my taxes.

Here is the only problem with your post. Blackberry does not sell a 3G device that runs on the AT&T network. The only 3G Blackberry in the Statess runs on VZ and Sprint EVDO networks.

If you do not want to take my word for it, check out the CNet story about the 3G version for AT&T being delayed until August. I am fairly sure that Blackberry does not make a 3G version for any other part of the world (again, other than the EVDO versions).

I live and work in Sunset Park Brooklyn and am considering switching to ATT to get the iphone. Being a New Yorker, would you recommend switching? I know you don't get reception in time square, but how 'bout the service elsewhere?

Sorry if you already mentioned this... but to clarify. Did your phones come with the "new" model number SIM's? Did you try having AT&T re-set (or re-activate) your phone onto the network? I think thats what they mean by the update?

I was thinking the same thing. Most likely the device was a Moto Q or a BlackJack II by Samsung. They both look similar to the BlackBerry
