Ok, to the poster who posted ... changing the sim card... I haven't received my i-phones as yet, they are on DF order from at&t.... What exactly should I look for when I go and pick up the phone? Should I ask at&t to give me a new sim card? and have them take the one that comes with the i-phone out? After that who do I ask to send an update to the phone? The at&t store where I pick up the phone from? And also, how do I find the build date, and the factory location? Please can you post a step by step instruction, for all the non techie people in this forum. If this fix's the problem, can people who do this, post and say so. Also having found this out, isn't this now an AT&T problem and not an Apple error? Thanks

When u pick up the phone as them for a new sim card. Then call 611 from your cell and tell at&t to make sure your imei number matches up with your phone with the imei number they have on file. Then as the rep from the 611 call to send you an update to the phone. I dont think the reps in the store can do this, I am not sure though. At least this will cover all your bases when you get your new device. Good luck.

Here we go again with the faulty antenna theory. :P

I truly believe its a mix of iphone having issues switching to Edge when it should, and some stress on the networks from all the new phones being added on.

And again people are posting about their 3G blackberry working fine. I think it was said already, but there is no 3G blackberry on AT&T.

Hi Zlog,

I'm not really floating any theory. I actually think what you say is correct. I was just responding to the sim number theory. 🙂

Thanks, Doug, will do exactly as you have said, and report back.... Except still no i-phones! BTW, have you heard about apple giving refurb returned phones as new ones. I read on one of the threads that the phones that are being returned as faulty are being repackaged by apple and shipped out as new. I hope this doesn't happen to me! Are they allowed to do that?

They are allowed to ship you refurb devices but they look brand new without a scratch on them. They have to check the phones and make sure that everything is working correctly. But on the other hand the 3g iphones are so new they don't even have refurbished ones in right now. The ones I have received where all brand new. But they look so new you wouldnt be able to tell them apart from one right out of the box. So don't be turn away from refurbished phones when getting one as a replacement to a defective unit because they test them and you know you are getting one that has everything working correctly. I am very cosmetic freak when it comes to my stuff. And i wouldn't stand for a scratch of the slightest or crack on my phone when getting it replaced. So every time I receive one I check it under a microscope so to speak. let me know how it goes. I hope my fix to the reception problem works for everybody.

Here in Switzerland, it's definitely not a provider issue, as only the iPhone 3G gets very crappy 3G reception and no other 3G handsets in the same location at the same time with the same SIM card.

It's also hardly a SIM issue, because I a) already had the latest SIM card and my 3G Nokia was performing flawlessly on 3G, while the iPhone was pretty much useless.

For some people it just seems to be beyond the scope of their imagination that quite a large batch of 3G iPhones are actually faulty.
