I live in San Luis Obispo, CA and work in Santa Maria, CA. Both have small 3G areas. Between home and work, there is also a 3G coverage area in Pismo Beach, CA.

I simply turned off my 3G, but still experience dropped calls. I even dropped an important conference call with a client while parked 4 bars-> disconnect -> No service for 30 seconds -> 1 bar. This is with the 3G turned off. It is admittedly worse with the 3G enabled, but this is not a cure, nor is it reasonable.

My calls drop all the time while driving. The 5A345, 5A347, and 2.0.1 made no difference. I have the 'O' model SIM card. I experience longer dead spots than with the old 4G iPhone and more dropped calls.

I had hoped that 2.0.1 would have fixed it. It did not.

Does anyone know how to disable GPS? Could that possible be interfering as a harmonic or at IF?

Apple should at least come out and say they are investigating the **** problem. I live in center city Philly and I always have full bars. That doesn't stop me from having lots of missed phone calls (the phone never rings) and I get a lot of dropped calls.

This quote from the latest cnet article summed it up perfectly! "Stephen Yarbrough has a love-hate relationship with his new Apple iPhone 3G: He calls it the best gadget he's ever had but also the worst mobile phone."

Ding!

I live in a heavily populated city of just around a million people in Grand Rapids, MI and my iPhone doesn't work at all in my house. I've had other people who use AT&T here and they get great reception. I've swapped out my phone with apple already and I still have the issue. Basically my phone is useless here. I can take it outside and get one bar which gives me enough to get the voicemails that I've missed but not enough to talk on the phone.

I'm in Los Angeles and OC and have dropped calls almost every time I make or receive a call. In addition, I can't even get my mail sometimes. The more discouraging part is it seems to be getting worse. I've resorted to just turning 3G off, which seems to work, but if that was the case why did I spend the extra money to get an upgrade? I will be going to Apple today or tomorrow to ask for an exchange. I must say though, I'm quite disappointed!

I have my iphone 3g now for 1 month, but I've still have the 3g option to off because of the problems I have with it.

It's dropping from 5 bars to 1 and to no service all the time.

I've live in The Netherlands in the center of a big city, t-mobile say that 3g reception must be 90% to 100% there..

Hope that apple fix this soon.

I live in Baltimore. My partner and I both had first generation iPhones and both switched to 3G.

The difference between the connection is astonishing . . . unfortunately for us (and the 3G) astonishingly bad. We no longer get service on the first floor of our home where we got full bars before. We actually have to walk outside to make and receive phone calls (and even then, only a couple of small bars). Calls are dropped left and right. Bluetooth earpiece no longer sounds right.

Basically, it's pretty awful. I hope Apple offers some sort of trade-in or software update option.

When you cancel the contract do you still have to pay the activation cost? Also, if you return the iphone within the first 30 days, is there a restocking fee? Is it different for if you buy the iphone through an Apple Store or through an AT&T store? I'm just wondering because I want to get the phone (hopefully it works out for me), but I'm very leery because of all the problems I've been hearing. Since I depend on my phone for not only my personal life, but for work as well I need it to work and can't live with bad reception and so forth.

Thanks!

I have a 3G and get dropped calls on 3G or EDGE. I can be sitting at my desk with 5 bars up on either network and still get dropped in the middle of a conversation.

I am also having issues with email. Sometimes it seems to drop off. I have to power down and power up the phone to get emails.

Other times it works just great.

I was a third generation Blackberry user and switched to the iPhone. I am really wondering if this is ever going to be fixed.
