Apple doesn't plan to support Flash. Most other phones support a Flash Lite app which is in a 2.0 phase. No phone supports full flash as the full flash can cripple a phone with huge downloads an un-optimized code.
I have been searching myself and this does not look good. No Java either!!!
This stinks because I have not found a way to watching looping radar images on my phone. All the sites use Flash and Java. Tracking weather is very important to me and I hope Apple supports these products soon.
I don't believe Yahoo weather uses either and I have watched an animated radar map on my iPhone. There may be others, but who knows if Flash will ever be on the iPhone and Apple has pretty well said Java will never be on it.
No, they don't have to write plugins, as I said Yahoo weather, without a plugin, has animated weather maps that are usable on the iPhone. They may be using h.264 or other open means of displaying.
I've noticed that too for a lot of weather sites. I think weather sites are realizing that a lot of people using mobiles want to check weather especially if you live in an area prone to interesting weather 🙂.
