Consequences of Resetting iPhone

I've seen things posted about possibley resetting the iphone or installing the software update on the brand new phone would help the battery life. If i do reset the iphone, do i lose all my contacts or would they save to the sim card. I assume i would lose my pics and apps but those could all be synced in itunes.

My battery life hasn't been terrible but i see people saying theirs is lasting like 2 days. I last through the day to about 20% but then i cahrge it as soon as i get home. I am going to try tommorow to drain it completely till it shuts off and see how long it lasts but i do want to know what happens if i do try this eventually.

Make sure to backup you phone before restoring (right click on the phone in iTunes and select backup). It restores everything like a charm (though you still have to sync media). It does not save to the SIM card, but to your local (or networked) HDD.

Go into iTunes, goto <edit>, <preferences>, click on the <Syncing> tab, and make sure that it has a valid backup listed. As long as it's backed up, it saves everything but media
