Switching Apple iPhone Carriers

Okay, I haven't been able to find this topic anywhere in the forums so...

Will the iPhones work is you're taking an overseas iPhone (ie one from the 3 network in Hong Kong) and moving it onto an AT&T plan? Will At&t do that or can I never switch carriers even if the network is a legit supporter of the iPhone3G?

Hey Jon,

I have a HK one as well and since our 3G iPhones are unlocked, the only problem you'll face is that you'll probably need to buy out of the 3 contract - unless you are transferring to a country that also has 3 as a network; they might be able to help you out in that situation.

There are some carriers around the world who will contribute towards buying out an existing plan to get you as a customer (they sometimes do it in NZ as I recall), but you'd really have to check and with individual carriers in the country you're heading to.
