bitsetting to DVD-ROM?

I have a Macbook Pro 2.2ghz(Macbook Pro3,1 circa August07). It contains a Matshita DVD-R UJ-85JE disc burner- -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL. But my question is: does this DVD drive support bitsetting?

Also, Serial-ATA is another name for SATA, no?
