.eps file can not be converted to PDF file?

I am a 1st grade teacher and I sometimes use clip art in papers that I make for the kids. I get most of my clip art from a company called DJ Inkers. When I switched to a Mac recently, I started to install the clip art which is in .eps format. Most of it works, but when I tried to open the file for a couple of the CD's or use it in Pages, a window would pop up and say that the file could not be converted to a PDF file. Normally I would assume there was something wrong with the CD, but it worked fine on my Windows, the CD said it was compatible with Mac, and most of the other CD's worked. Does anyone have any clue why this is, or what I could do to fix it?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Apple provides very limited EPS support. If they won't open then you'll need to use an Adobe application to do the conversion for you.

If you want to convert your EPS image instantly into a PDF (ideal for emailing), just drag it onto Apple’s Preview application icon in your dock (or in your Applications folder) and Mac OS X automatically converts your Postscript file to a PDF on the fly. When you choose save from the File menu, it will save as a PDF.

I think you missed the part about the files not opening. Apple's Postscript code is stuck in 1993 and cannot handle many complex documents.

Alright, thanks Orange. I just think it's kind of wierd that it worked for about 12 CD's, and then didn't work on 2 of them... Oh well.

Maybe so, but eps is stuck in 1993 also. She did mention Pages, I assumed that was the program she was trying to open them with.

All I can say is, if preview won't work, then use Gimp or shell out some bucks for some adobe product, unless someone comes up with a better suggestion.

OBTW the free converter automatically places the converted file in the the same directory as the original, so that won't work with a CD (since they are read only) . You will have to copy .eps contents of CD to a directory on your hard drive first.

Here is another program called VectorDesigner, I've heard of it but I never used it myself, it does have a fully functional demo version though and is considerably cheaper than Adobe's products.
