I've run into this before too.

What ended up happening to me, after literally many months of stress and frustration, for it was a huge project I had worked on for a long time. I simply had to just make a new project. Something within my project settings or files had become corrupt. My first suggestion would be to just start again and see what happened. But if you don't want to, try making sure you don't have any hidden unused tracks or buttons. This will upset and make DVDSP pissy at times. If that isn't it, maybe it is your actual final cut exported file. Ask yourself, did you run it through compressor or not (this is not a necessity, but could potentially help), if not then try burning a dvd with another project all together and see what happens. It might help you narrow down your problems, sort of like a check list. If the other project burns, then it is either your DVDSP project (which is my guess), or it is your final cut file, which means you just export again and try again.

Hope that helps!

David,
Are you aware of issues with Memorex brand? I recently built my over an hour project from FCP 6 to Compressor to DVDSP4 and burned it on Memorex discs. It plays as it should be on dvd player and in simulator/emulator, however, when I put it in the computer's dvd layer it start 'skipping' (gives error reading 'skipping damaged areas').
Do you think it has to do with the brand? From your experience what would be the best/better brand to burn on?
Thanks.

Memorex is not one of the brands often recommended around here, Taiyo Yuden is a good one

Take a look at this thread for info on how to increase compatibility

And this thread regarding media

(Note Memorex may actually be 3rd class or worse depending on the ID)

You mentioned in the thread you referred to;

+1.) Encode video at the lowest rate to give acceptable results (too high gives stutters)+

I am assuming you're talking about the encoding settings in the DVDSP/Preferences/Encoding, not in the Compressor/Quality Tab(?)
I matched settings in the DVD Encoder to those in the Compressor (VBR Best 2 Pass, Avg Rate 6.8, Max 8.0) assuming it will affect a better picture (?!) the default encoder settings in DVDSP are lower than that. Should I keep the lower settings in the DVD encoder?

Thanks for the info on the media, very helpful.
