Voice mail didn't prompt for password

I had a voice mail and it didn't prompt me for the password. I have a password set to lock the phone after 3 minutes of inactivity.
Does the latter affect the former. I just listened to the message again from yesterday and didn't prompt me to hear.

Thanks.

Has anyone had this issue of not prompting for a password. I have a screen password, but expected the voice mail to prompt for a password as well. I just listened to a new message a few minutes ago and after I turned on the phone (entered screen password), I went into the voice mail and clicked on the message and played right away without password prompt.

I wish the manual explained this but jsut got done talking with ATT and Visual Voicemail will NOT prompt you for a password. It just downloads messages to the phone. The first time you use the phone you setup a password and this is used for checking voicemails when not on the iPhone.

So the only option is to password the phone to access it.
