Photo Changes Color in Edit Mode

What I've noticed is that when I put a photo into Edit mode, the photo automatically lightens. When I go through the process of editing my photo to the color range I want it to be in and click on Done, the photo goes back to the lineup where it displays with a darker or more saturated shade, thus rendering my editing decisions null and void. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any way to correct it so that the photo appears the same way whether it's in Edit mode or not?

iMac 2.16 20", Mac OS X (10.4.10)

This sounds like the thumbnail is not updating with the results of your edit.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Thanks for your response. The thumbnail is updating with my editing--cropping, retouching, etc. It might be that the photo displays against a white background while in Edit mode, but against a black background when enlarged from a thumbnail in the gallery, and iPhoto automatically adjusts the brightness of the photo depending on the background. The color shift is more apparent in lighter colored photos.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

My library does this too, on two different machines. Library has been totally rebuilt.
