iPod Touch Equalizer FLAT vs OFF

What exactly is the difference between the iPod Touch's Equalizer setting of FLAT vs OFF and when would I use one vs the other? They both seem to do exactly nothing but I am sure there is a subtle difference that I am not catching.

No, not really. They're only the same sometimes ...

Off means Off, and Flat can perform the same as Off depending on how your music is encoded. If you have songs that have an EQ preset in their tags, then Flat tells the iPod to use the EQ that is preset in the song. For songs that do not have a preset EQ, then Flat is the same as Off. More info:
