music not in default folder - iTunes 7.7 upgrade - now missing songs

I couldn't find the exact answer to my problem, so I'm posting a new topic. If there's a solution, please direct me to the post.

Basically, my music is located on a secondary drive, I upgraded to 7.7 and now the music appears to be missing when I open iTunes. I decided I better check on the boards before I do something stupid and lose all my settings, artwork, etc.

My original and new music folder is : M:\iTunes\iTunes Music

The original iTunes Library files are located in the default location: C:\Users\Jeff\Music

After the upgrade, I now have an iTunes folder and library files on the secondary drive: M:\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes. The "Previous iTunes Library" folder is also located here.

Also, in Vista there are what I think are called virtual or alias folders under the Desktop icon in Windows Explorer. In any case, there are now TWO Music folders (or aliases named "Music"). The first points to M:\iTunes\iTunes Music where the MP3's still exist. The second points to C:\Users\Jeff\Music where the old library files still exist. I didn't remember seeing this before but maybe it's always been this way.

What do I need to do so that I can restore my music without losing my favorites, playlists, and most importantly my artwork?

Thank you! Jeff

First off, close keep itunes closed and search both C: and M: for any library fies (they will have the ITL file extension). Save them to another place such as a temp folder.
If they have similar names you might have to change the names a little bit.
Such as, C ituneslibrary.itl and M ituneslibrary.itl

Then start itunes and immediatly press the shift key. It will give a choice to create or shoose an existing library. Go check out the different library files and see if that's where are your music is.

Moving the itl files into a temp directory caused iTunes to begin the recreation of the entire Library directory in that location. Since this is supposed to be a temporary location, it would be better to follow the SHIFT procedure and then open the various itl files wherever they exist and then make a decision on which one to use. Having all these itl files all over the place sure is messy. Thanks for the help!
