torn paper edge look?

Is it at all possible to have a look like on this website, with using iWeb? http://trupianos.net
I really like that torn paper look, and was thinking how to do that. Make it in Photoshop, then use a shape? Would that make the download really slow? It's already pretty slow, and I'm trying to figure out how to streamline it a bit.

If you look at my site

http://www.makentosh.com

you'll see a gradient on the left and the right (simulating light shone from the margins).

That's done by creating one thin strip

and using it for my background image as a tiled image. You'd want to do something similar, but make the image tall enough so that repeating isn't as obvious.

You can't place a separate image as the background in those areas but you CAN place artwork there so that it still looks like the bottom and top have edges. That's how some of the themes at 11mystics.com are designed.

Yes, doing it as a shape would make the load longer because it'd likely be converted to a heavyweight .png image. Using your own .jpg should load much faster (my background WAS a .jpg at one point, I'll have to change that back someday 🙂
