Quicktime only plays 5 seconds of any track - won't play all mp3

My Quicktime player (Version 7.5 (861)) used to work fine but now whenever I try to play an mp3 on a website, it only plays the first 5 seconds. By this time the duration cursor has moved from start to finish at which point the music stops. I have reinstalled the player but the problem remains. If I launch the player from the program list then use the player to open an mp3 on the hard drive it plays fine.
But clicking on an mp3 link on a website gives the above result.

I am accustomed to seeing the "cut down" interface that appears in the middle of an otherwise blank screen after clicking an mp3 link. The one that contains only the play/pause symbol, volume control and "duration band" with cursor. This does appear as usual but I get only 5 seconds of what I know to be 30 second or 3 minute tracks.
Am using latest Firefox. (If I use IE it uses the Windows player with works fine)

Can ayone help please?

"Direct" links to QuickTime files that can be played in QuickTime is just poor html coding.
Use this method to open the file:
"Copy" the URL (do not click it to open in a browser). Use the contextual menu (right mouse button on a PC).
Open QuickTime Player and "Open URL" (File menu) and "paste" the copied URL.
You example has 0:00:00:46.34 as the time when played in QuickTime.

What do ou mean please? If it is bad coding why did it work perfectly until recently? I didn't ask it to play in quick time. It is an mp3 file. Quicklime opens in response to clicking the link to the mp3.

If the problem is in the code then how should the code be written?
What would make QT play only the first few seconds?

I have picked another site at random and the links on this site play only a few seconds as well.

This appears to suggest there is something wrong with my computer setup I would have thought
Help is appreciated

Did you try the method I explained above for opening the file?
Actually you did tell QuickTime's browser plugin to open .mp3 files by altering the settings in the QuickTime Control Panel:
Browser tab / MIME Settings (remove the check mark for .mp3).
Proper html code would not use direct links (like your example above). It would assign a browser plug-in by using "object" page code.
Since nearly any browser plug-in can play .mp3 files each user could set their machine for the player of their choice.

we must have our lines crossed.
I want to be able to clck the link on the site I created and have the whole mp3 play.
i want to be able to write the code so it does that for me and therefore, others.
I don't want to download the file. I PUT IT there. ( not yelling - emphasising)

Can someone please tell me
1]what the exact code is that I should put in my website so folks can play an mp3, that is instead of just linking to the mp3 if that is "bad coding"and

2]why, if it unworkable code, why this worked perfectly until recently?
Thanks a lot
