is ipod touch supposed to remember known wifi networks
so, when I use my ipod touch at work (2.0 software, btw) I have to physically go into the settings and connect to the wifi there. then, when I came home I have to physically go in and connect to the wifi there.
isn't it supposed to remember these two networks and connect to them automatically when the unit is within range? on the wifi settings page it does say, "Known networks will be joined automatically." but this doesn't seem to be happening.
Reset your iPod. Go to Settings>General>Reset. Click on reset all settings. If that doesn't work, then a restore would be the only option. From your iPod preference in the iTunes window click on Restore. This will install a fresh copy of the iPod touch OS.
Yes, it is supposed to remember networks, and mine does do that. You seem to have the settings correct, so the reboot suggestion is what I would say as well. It should be working.
I'm having the same problem and I think they should fix this by implementing "Preferred Networks". My iTouch works perfectly, getting on and off my home network, and a couple other networks. Where it falls flat though is at work. At work we have a "Free" wireless that has a broadcast SSID with no security, and we have multiple secure networks. I only use the secure networks. But at work, it will not automatically log me on to the secure network. Yes, I've told it to "forget" the non-secure network, but it seems to get tripped up by having two possible network connections.....so to connect, I always have to go to the wireless settings page, and then sit there and wait......until finally the secure network shows up in the list (takes about 5-10 seconds). Then I can select the network and it works fine.
So if they would just implement "Preferred Networks", so that we could list ones that we would like to choose to auto-connect, it would work far better.
