My Mac keeps beeping

Question

My Mac keeps beeping

My iMac makes a single beeping noise every few minutes even with the sound volume off. Why does that keep happening?
Two things happened earlier before this began to happen
!. My Mac crashed and I turned it off by holding the power button
2. My HD was dangerously low but I've since made space.

Anybody know why this beeping noise occurs?

Beeping during startup usually indicates a hardware issue. Though I'm unsure about it beeping during normal operation. Have you ever installed third party RAM? A good place to start is to run Apple Hardware Test. Insert your original gray iMac install disk, restart, and hold down the "d" key. Run the Extended test.

My iMac suddenly started doing this as well.

I quickly dumped some large graphics I had stored to disc. I then ran the diagnostics as recommended. The fan immediately kicked in on high speed, and the beeping stopped mid-way through the diagnostics. No errors in hardware were found.

No beeping since finishing the full diagnostic. Go figure.
