Following the 2.0 software upgrade my car bluetooth no longer recognises my iPhone. Before the upgrade the connection worked very well, with all contacts and numbers recognised. According to Apple Customer Service, there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to rectify this issue and I can't go back to the old software version of iPhone. The Bluetooth connection is very important to me and I would rather not use a headset. But I may have no choice unless I change to a compatible car (if they exist). I've contacted my car manufacturer, but haven't had a reply so far. Does anybody have any advice, or perhaps confirm that I will have to use a headset if I want to talk hands free in my car?

How would we know, we don't even know what model car you have, version of Bluetooth it supports, etc. I'd wait to hear back from your car manufacturer.
It's a Saab 9-3 (2006 model). It obviously supported the bluetooth on the old version of iPhone, but I'm not sure which version of bluetooth that is. Presumably the version of Bluetooth has changed since the 2.0 upgrade (upgrade seems to be the wrong word!).
I have the same probem with the iPhone 3G and the Saab UHP BT. The handsfree system in the Saab was flaky with a SE700i but perfect with the O2 XDA orbit - a rebadged HTC pda phone in the UK.
Now my new iphone is recognised and pairs with the car on bt, but it then loses the connection and the car says that no phone is connected.
I suspect that it is the BT software in the iphone that is to blame and that there is a bug in it. I did think that by now that BT technology was pretty standard and that Apple would have used a tried and trusted BT stack.
I suspect strongly in the rush to get the iPhone out that the nos of BT handsfree devices that they tested the iPhone with was but a small sample of what is out there. It is also no answer to say that it is the car manufacturers fault that BT does not work. If it worked before software 2.0, then it is a software fault of Apple's. It is also my strong belief that any new bit of kit should work with what is out there already - I am not going to spend any more money on getting an "Apple BT headset"!
I do know that there is at least one other in this forum who has the same problem, so it is not an ideosynchratic behaviour by one individual iPhone.
BTW before someone replies - I have reset the phone, turned wifi on and off etc etc.
I do hope that Apple becomes aware of the problem and will get around to fixing it. I do also realise that it may not be on the top of their agenda as there seem to be other pressing problems (Mobileme) and perhaps, we (lucky) Saab owners are in a small minority

Saab have a software upgrade that may be able to sort out this problem. They told me this would be covered by the warranty. Yesterday I got a 3G and the bluetooth connection seems to work without the Saab software upgrade(I haven't had a chance to take my car to them yet). Happy days. Incidentally, the old iPhone is recognised by my BMW 1 series (which is a 2007 model), but I haven't checked the 3G bluetooth connection yet.
My advice with bluetooth/car issues would be to conatct your car manufacturer to see if they can do anything with the car's software.
I'm still puzzled why the 3G works in my Saab but the old iPhone doesn't, though I'll still sleep at night if I never find out.

I have a similar problem with pairing my iPhone to a 07 Saab 9-3. However my wife's phone connects without a problem and will stay connected even as I drive down the road with the phone in our house!
I 'restored' my phone back to the basic profile and it too paired and stayed connected without a problem.
As soon as I load my backup it will pair for 5-15 seconds and then loses it. I will contact Saab but I suspect this is a phone problem.
Every other phone has paired without any problem and the only solution is to change the SIM over to an old unlocked Nokia.

Have the same problem. 2007 Jeep Cherokee with uConnect.
I phone worked perfectly with the in-stereo UConnect Blue Tooth until I upgraded to 2.0 -- then nothing.
neither Jeep nor UConnect can do anything. They said it is a software issue on Apple's part. You cannot update or patch any UConnect car devices prior to 2008 (because they do not have any hard drives).
so Apple needs to come up with a patch for folks that had Blue Tooth enabled car phones without hard drives.

My iPhone will allow me hear on the Bluetooth through my Volvo XC90; but, I cannot speak without loosing every third word. Does anyone else have this problem? Any thoughts on how to resolve it? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
