Software Update, which is aware of your OS version, wouldn't offer to install iTunes 7.7.1 if it weren't compatible with that OS version. One of Software Update's principal functions is telling you which available Apple software updates are compatible with your installed Apple software.

Can't find any for iT 7.7.1, Kappy. The download doesn't seem to be available at all outside of Software Update, and SU doesn't show any SRs. But SU does offer to install it, and once installed, it works just fine on my 1GHz Powerbook running 10.3.9.
