Well, before, I had installed itunes v7.7, and like a lot of users, their ipod became corrupt.

well 7.7.1 came out and it seemed to fix a lot of peoples ipods, mine remains corrupt, and when i try to restore i get the same error as i did with the earlier version, 7.7.

"An unknown error has occurred (1437)"
- the error i receive when i try to restore my ipod.

I'm having this same problem! After I got the 1437 error message, I tried resetting my iPod, but that didn't help any. So then I tried restoring it. After I restored it, the iPod would recognize in iTunes if I left iTunes alone for 15-20 minutes, and it slowly syncs songs. But after it syncs like, 50 songs or so, it always says that my iPod cannot be read from or written to. If I restart my computer and connect my iPod again, it repeats the process of syncing up a few songs and then erroring out.

I hope that the next update after 7.7.1 will fix this. 😟 I really miss my iPod!!

I defeated the dreaded error 1437. after long pointless phone calls 2 apple i managed 2 get my ipod into disk mode (by pressing the menu and center button releasing menu after seeing the apple and pressing play continuing to hold the center button). I then unpluged the ipod and held down the center and menu button turning off my ipod. i then repluged my ipod and held down the center and menu button till i heard a click released and pressed the buttons again. this brought be back to the apple screen i then let go of menu and pressed play. itunes instanly regonized my ipod and asked me if i wanted to restore my ipod, and bingo! a succeful restore. its good to have my ipod back i hope this works for you.
