Hi Mulder. I'm sure glad you choose to contribute to the Forums. 🙂

Here is more info on DNSChanger...

========READ FULLY BEFORE USING DNSChanger Removal Tool==========

The DNSChanger Trojan Horse, also known as OSX.RSPlug.A and OSX/Puper, has been found on numerous pornographic websites disguising itself as a video codec. Once downloaded and installed, DNSChanger changes the DNS settings on the computer, redirecting websites entered by the user to malicious sites. If personal information is entered on these malicious websites, it can lead to identity theft.

Using DNSChanger Removal Tool

Upon launching DNSChanger Removal Tool, click the Scan button to scan for the DNSChanger trojan horse. DNSChanger Removal Tool will scan your computer for the DNSChanger trojan horse, and alert you if it is detected. If the DNSChanger trojan horse is detected, DNSChanger Removal Tool will give you the option to remove it. If the DNSChanger trojan horse is detected and removed, you will need to restart your computer to clear out the bad DNS entries added by the DNSChanger Trojan Horse.

I went to Sony website, or so I thought, and downloaded the ****4mac. It was my own very bad mistake. I downloaded the DNS changer, and it is not detecting any trojans now, it did wipe it out it claims. Now I dont even trust the changer, Is there another way to confirm I am virus/trojan free?

I am uncertain what to do to change settings of DNS server. I went to system pref but could not located the numbers to change 208.67.222.222, etc. I also have a route with it's own ip address, and I am concerned this might conflict with my AT&T router and I wont be able to go on the internet.
Obviously, I am not a techie, and would appreciate some 101 guidance.

Did you restart your Mac after running DNSChanger Removal Tool? If not, then you need to do that for it to complete the task of removing it.

As for changing the DNS Servers, you need to go to System Preferences > Network > TCP/IP and the window is right in front of you. Just replace whatever numbers are currently there with the ones I mentioned, click Apply Now and quit System Preferences, then restart Safari. There should be no problem with your AT&T modem/router; we're not changing anything with it. If you experience a problem, unplug your modem, wait a minute or two and then plug it back in.

Hi Mulder,

Why not keep available the present location and add new ones? I have several Earthlink Locations as well as ones for *Open DNS* and Verizon. I switch back and forth between those two if one acts up for a while. My preference is Open DNS cuz it protects against DNS Changes. 🙂 (I think.)

Best Regards to All. JP 🙂
