Thanks for reposting. I added my comments last night and was just checking in to see if anyone had advice, but its gone.

I also have little fractures between the the headphone jack and the sim card cutout. They seems to be subsurface but Im afraid that they will spider or start to separate.

I have an appointment with the apple store for them to take a look on Saturday.

Not sure IF they offer me a new phone it will be worth it. If they all have the defect then I may has well keep mine. My hope is that I will be logged in their database with this issue and hopefully compensated when/if it's acknowledged.

I also wanted to put out there that I love my new iphone and am not an apple hater...just a concerned consumer who shelled out $$$ for the high end phone and service. It should be sturdy enough to last a few months (or 17 days) without showing signs of falling apart!

    Yes it's kind of sad

You are totally right, I'm no Apple hater at all, but as this is my first product I buy from them it's kind of a disappoint to see that the build quality *****.

Removing the post seems a little strange. I'm not ready to call conspiracy just yet, maybe there was someone posting hate language about Apple or foul language in general. However, if they just removed the post to quell information about a defective product, that indeed is shameful but understandable when your bottom line is "MOVE PRODUCT."

I've been fortunate enough not to be having problems with my black 16GB, but seeing people's complaints and watching Apple's (lack of) response is disturbing. Apple should stand by their products. It annoys me even more that their "geniuses" aren't replacing them...

It annoys me that they blame the end-user. It's not our fault I treat that phone like it was my baby.

I also have a crack on my white iPhone. Even stranger, there's a region along the side of the iPhone where plastic looks "wormy". You can check out a picture of it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8879644@N06/2721965183/

Any ideas what it is? Anyone else have this?

    Cheers

It almost seems like you held a lighter underneath it, I guess you didn't do that but that's the way I see it :O

That looks like bubbles caused when the case was molded.

My black 16gb has several very small cracks, one between the silence toggle and the screen, one running from the camera lens toward the apple logo, one running from the end of the sim slot by the whole toward the apple logo and one near the dock connector, these are not scratches, they actually distort light reflected along them like the case is warped there. I called apple support and while on hold with the support guy I looked up this thread. He said I could get a replacement, but I instead asked if he would make a record of the problem so that I could get a replacement later on when they had fixed the issue. He gave me a case number and said that would not be a problem and was probably a good idea. So call in and get a case number if you are having this issue.

So, bad molding and a crack in the case? That's pretty bad. I think I will contact Apple support on this and see what they say.

Well, I looked at my white phone again today and it has several cracks around the headphone jack(which I don't even use) and the sleep button. I'm not mad but I think Apple should take responsibility for this( At least acknowledge that it is a flaw).Especially when some of us spent over 500 dollars on something that probably won't last a year.

I don't think everyone needs to get all ****** off about this. I can't see Apple going "Well, we screwed up but too bad" I mean look at the $100 credit thing last year for early iphone buyers. I think if everyone just uses a little patience and makes sure they let Apple support know that they have a problem, Apple will make it right.

Update: Called in and described the two artifacts on the iPhone and they will be replacing it. Going in to an Apple store on appointment to have it looked at an replaced. They suggested to back up the iPhone as well.

I called Apple Support and got a case number as well, thanks for the idea.
