Adobe Lightroom2 won't launch properly

I've recently installed Adobe Lightroom2 on my G4PB and it's having problems. When I try to open the app I get an error message "An error occurred when attempting to change modules" and this comes up after the (empty) Lightroom window opens - an empty central window, no side panels and though the modules appear on the upper right clicking on any just produces that same error message.

What I've tried so far:

Repairing permissions and verifying disk (which was ok - no problems found).
Trashing pref files for both Lightroom1 and 2.
Logging in with shift key - no login items

None of this worked.

Logging in as another user in a clean troubleshooting account - and this works! Normal Lightroom and no error message.

So it seems to be some conflict in my User folder, but I haven't a clue what. Lightroom1 had no problems previously. What has changed since is I've installed the latest Apple Security Update, but that would be system wide so if the app works when logging into another account, it can't be that.

Is anybody else seeing this issue? Any suggestions what to try next?

thanks,

ncm

Thanks Carolyn. I've checked the Adobe Lightroom forum and have tried just about all the suggestions there. I can't delete the registration for Lightroom1 if I want to reinstall, as I purchased an upgrade and it needs the version 1 registration/serial number to allow installation of version 2 - and that registration (and the one for version 2) are the only files in the Lightroom folder of Application Support/Adobe in the Library.

Lightroom loads properly and works when I log into another admin account on the same PowerBook. I tried copying the Pref file from there and replacing the one in my main User account, another suggestion, but that didn't work either. And with all the fooling around now if I launch the previously working Lightroom1 it comes up with the same error message! Argh.

Login items: text soap, DragThing, KeyCue, iCalAlarmScheduler,
AwakenHelper, PopChar, AdobeResourcesSynchronizer, EyeTVHelper,Spyder3Utility,Typinator, DefaultFolderX Helper, Epson Scanner Monitor.

But many of those same things are also in the Login items on my G4MDD and Lightroom2 works there.

I’ll try the Console. Good idea.

There is obviously something that is conflicting with Lightroom2, but it's hard to know what, given that many of the same apps and utilities are also on my desktop Mac, running the same OSX version. It's true that Lightroom2 does work on the PowerBook when logged into my other admin User, which I keep clean as a troubleshooting tool.

I reinstalled Lightroom2 after trashing everything associated with it including the package receipt. Before installing I rebooted and logged in with shift key - no login items loaded - ran Repair Permissions and Verify Disk and all was well. Still get the same error message. Then quit and tried relaunching with option key and made a new catalog. No difference. Then opened Console and it had a log of the preceedings. See if anything makes any sense to you:

Install of what? Lightroom2 (no, an install directly from the file I downloaded when I purchased the upgrade). The non-working account is my main account on this laptop and it was created when I bought the G4 PB. Well, I've upgraded the system several times since, but always create the same account/password and migrate data using Migration Assistant. In any case it's been a while, since I'm still on Tiger.

Thanks for trying to help.

Problem solved!!

I was checking the differences between my normal admin User account/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom contents and the one on the clean other admin User folder in the same place on the G4 PB where Lightroom2 had launched normally and noticed that on the one that works there are a slew of folders (Develop Presets, Export Presets, External Editor Presets, Filename Templates, Filter Presets, etc etc). On the main admin account, there was only one, the first. So it seemed the install on that account didn't load all the needed info. I simply copied the missing folders from the account that worked into the Public folder, switched to my main account and added those missing folders in the proper place. Voilà!. Now Lightroom launches normally and I don't get the dreaded missing modules alert. Hurrah!
