Quicktime.qts file

Everytime I start Quicktime I get the message "Quicktime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close" the module causing the problem is Quicktime.qts, I cannot find this file on my computer, any application that uses Quicktime will not run, i.e. Red Shift and Starry Night. I have tried versions from 5 up to the latest 7.2 pro, I have reformated the C drive and reinstalled windows.
If anyone can help I would be very greatful.
