Hey ysteinbu,

Can you check your email on your PC with Outlook Express using those settings? Try setting up the account in Outlook Express and then syncing the account settings to the iPhone using iTunes.

You can also check your hotmail email using Safari as described here:

Just checking. As I use a Hotmail Plus account as well on an iPhone 3G.


Here is my current setup as a saved account. Wondering if you notice any discrepancies with yours.

-Go to Settings - Mail - Hotmail account


Account - ON





POP ACCOUNT INFORMATION

Name: First and Last

Address: Hotmail Email address

Description: whatever you want



INCOMING MAIL SERVER

Host Name: pop3.live.com

username: your hotmail email address

password: hotmail password (might want to retype that and check as you type)



OUTGOING MAIL SERVER

SMTP - smtp.live.com - tap on this button


Primary Server - ON - Tap on this button

Server ON


Hostname: smtp.live.com

Username: hotmail email

password: hotmail password (retype if needed)

SSL: ON

Authentication: Password

Server Port: 587



Back out and of that page one time, then again, Now tap on Advanced


SSL: ON

Authentication: password

Delete from server: never

Port: 995



This is what I had and it works. If needed you can delete and re-add the account. Also if needed once you delete account - reset network settings before you re-add it.


Post back if needed. I know it works as long as you got the plus account.

had exactly this problem when I changed my password on hotmail. refused to access my password.

I removed the account as I got fed up with it.

Now I'm on the latest firmware (2.01?) and thought I'd give it another go. Added an "other" email account from the main screen, popped in my hotmail settings (just the basic ones), and it set itself up without any extra settings.

now I don't know if this is the firmware, or it remembered my settings from before - even though I deleted the account.

anyway, mine works now, just using the inital settings of name@hotmail.com and password!

You mean to tell me that Microsoft offer a POP service now?!

I remember back in the old days when it just wasn't do-able...

Man, things have changed since 1998! Pity I don't trust Microsoft...

Just upgraded Hotmail to Premium account. Only problem is that I can only see my Inbox folder. No other folders are viewable on Iphone. Is this normal? If so, does Izymail support multiple folders? MobileLive through the browser is another less appealing option.

This is a limitation of POP email accounts. The folders created on the server would only show up with IMAP accounts.

Related issue...I can access my hotmail account, and my settings are similar to those posted here. Trouble is, the messages that display (total of 199 messages) are from April through Dec of 2004 (yes, four years ago, that is not a typo). It says I have 3,228 messages, but shouldn't my Iphone display the most recent 200, not a bunch from several years ago?

I tried deleting the account and setting it up again, but the result is the same, I still get only very old messages. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue...iphone has downloaded the 200 oldest emails in my account. Did you find a solution to this issue?

Did you find a solution to the hotmail problem? I just recently got my iphone and had the same hotmail problem. I contacted apple support and they said there was a setting in my hotmail account but couldn't tell me what setting. I could not find the setting at all.
