iBook G3 won't connect wireless with WPA Personal

I recently installed a Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router (replacing older SMC wireless). I have a MBP that connects fine with WPA Personal. Our iBook (10.4.11) using an 'original' Airport card will connect with WEP or without wireless security, but will not connect with WPA. WPA is available in the Airport Connection dialog, but when I type in the password, I get the error message that it failed to connect.

Are you trying to use WPA2? (That won't work.)

Is the iBook running Mac OS X 10.3 or later? (Necessary for WPA.)

You may need to update the AirPort software to version 3.3.

Yes, hopefully you just have the router set to WPA2 and can just switch it to WPA and that will solve your problem. Just a warning, if you do the update, you might mess up your card completely like I did it. Just search my posts and you'll see what I mean.

We were trying WPA personal (which I understand is not WPA2).
We're using 10.4.11

Is the AirPort s/w not automatically updated with Software Update? Do we check this under "about this Mac"?

If it does not appear for you under Software Update, then it is likely that it has already been installed.

It should appear as a separate download there if it hasn't already been downloaded.
