To make a long story short my screen on my 8gb iPhone (1st gen) stopped working. Not completely but there's a strip about 1/4" above the bottom of the screen about 1/4" tall that's completely dead (doesn't respond to touch) spanning the width of the screen.

So...has somebody ever dealt with Apple's repair center? If the repair is more than $200 I might as well get a 3G. Any suggestions?

    Sounds like a defect that should be covered under warranty or AppleCare...if you have either, so it shouldn't cost you a thing.

    Otherwise, nobody here would be able to provide a definite answer as to how much it would cost. Only Apple would know so you should take it in.

    If the phone is still under warranty, there may be no cost at all to get a replacement. You would need to call AppleCare or make an appointment at the Genius Bar to find out.

    Depending on when you bought your iPhone... you could still be under warranty. From the time you buy your iPhone, you have one year to buy the extended warranty. Costing you only $69.00USD; it covers you for two years on hardware/software & "over-the-phone" tech support.
