opening "disc image" file in dvd player?

+We here ALWAYS recommend you make your iDVD 'burn' to a Disk Image file (an option under FILE). You can mount the disk image file on your computer desktop and use the Apple DVD Player application to verify the disc behaves as expected.+

how do i open the disc image file (is this the "ndif disc image"?) and view it? been trying many times, many ways.

macbook 2.4 ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Double click on it to mount it on your desktop, open the Apple DVD Player application and select File>Open DVD media; select the image file you mounted on your desktop and then choose the VIDEO_TS folder. You may need to hit the play button in the on-screen controller to start the DVD playing.

(BTW, the extension is usually .img and the Kind is NDIF)

Apple supplies an EXCELLENT series of Help files for its applications. In this case, with the DVD Player application open, select Help>DVD Player Help>playing a movie>watching a movie file from your hard drive

hurray! it plays in the dvd player! BUT THE **** THING WON"T PLAY THE CHAPTERS!!!!

a small victory, but i'm still losing the war. the spoils of victory are leaning towards turning to another company/machine to make my dvds. i can't keep waiting 3 1/2 hours to find out i've gotten nowhere closer to a finished dvd.
i'm not into wasting electricity like this.

thanks for your help! i hope apple is compensating you somehow.

Once again the Apple Help files can give you direction. See iDVD 7.0 Help (iLife '08): Preparing your Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro movie to work with iDVD in the iDVD 7 Help files. It can also be found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6652.html

There was, perhaps, a time you could use an intuitive approach to working with computers, but today's complex software usually requires digging through the manuals or the application help file (unless you enjoy 'wandering helpless in the wilderness'.)

i hope apple is compensating you somehow.

sorry to bother you again.
i did "disc image" and everything looks great. i took a few days off before making the actual dvd and now your original advice/info is gone from the site. (maybe i shouldn't have titled it 'worst product ever'.)
so i have the disc image, it plays on the dvd player. how do i burn the actual dvd?

also, all dvds have worked so far, but does a slower burn speed, say 4x, make a more mistake-free disc for archival purposes?
