Does anyone else notice this? I've noticed that the modem firmware was updated as well. My reception is much better. I'm now getting 2 or 3 bars we I had 0 or 1 before.

I've read that most people are experiencing this. But there are a few (Chicago and San Francisco) that are not.
Those two cities always have to be different, don't they?
Sadly I guess we're a bit tweaked here in Los Angeles. No noticeable improvement on 3G 😟

You're too clsoe to San Francisco.
No improvement in Brooklyn.
No improvement here. But I'm near San Francisco, so ... 😀
Better in NJ
Actually, 95% of the time I have all 5 bars here in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. My 3G iPhone hasn't failed me yet. Hopefully after this really looong backup process, the 2.01 update will make things much better.
I live in San Francisco. I've had pretty good 3G reception with 2.0. With 2.01 it seems about the same. However, the display shows more bars.
I prefer testing reception with a more accurate measure. I use the standard test at www.inetworktest.com/iphone. Usually get 300 - 450 kbps on 3G here.

No improvement just outside Denver, CO. Will try outside to make sure.
I have a question for those saying "no improvement"
Did you just install, look at your phone, and decide this?
I mean, if ATT said this is how they test, you'd not be too sure of their results...

I said no improvement because I am in a full-blown 3G area according to AT&Ts coverage viewer, but I have yet to see 3G show up on my phone.
Excellent point. My comment about no noticeable improvement applies specifically to the area I spend most of my time - in my home office. 3G reception in this area (though listed as solid on at&t's map) fluctuates between no service and 1 bar... usually kicks back to edge.
I have not checked the 3G service in any other area.

Thanks - that's at least an answer that shows some sense.
I fear though that others are just saying this and have no real data yet as it's new and how could one really test well yet?

Well...4-5 bars at home before the update. 4-5 bars at home after the update. I tracked the signal strength for a whole 3 minutes, on two iPhones... 😉
Overall, I'd say we need to wait for the data to roll in...

3g Reception Greatly Improved with 2.01 update
