Apple Loops (Green -> MIDI) 2 questions?

Hello All,
2 quick questions with regards to Apple MIDI loops:
1. Looking for the MIDI loops on the HD, are these the *.CAF files?
2. Does any one know how to get the Apple midi loops into Ableton Live as MIDI loops and not audio loops?

Thx, Kipp

1. The MIDI AND Audio loops are all in .CAF format. I'm not sure there's a way to tell which are which when looking at the files themselves. The only way I can tell is by looking at them in the Loop Browser.

2. I'm not positive about this, but I'm pretty sure that only Logic can understand the metadata contained in the Apple Loops that contains the MIDI info. Hopefully someone else will chime in and clarify this point. If Ableton can understand .CAF files, I think they will import only as audio files.

Good Luck!

So it looks like CAF files are just compressed AIF files. And somehow the Green loops are not differentiated from Audio loops when viewing via Finder. At least that is what I am seeing. Any loop from the Jam packs that are dragged into LIVE end up as a Audio loop.
I guess a work around would be to work on the MIDI green loop in Logic, then export as MIDI... then drag that file into LIVE.
Thx, Kipp
