Rare but extremely annoying glitch

I've spoken to APPLECARE and the Genius Bar about this problem, as well as tried out many different phones with the new software on it - and it's a software glitch. They told me that the developers monitor this board, and that this is the best way to communicate problems.
Bring up any text screen, and type the word "Damiera". You will find that you cannot type the letter R after E. No matter what you do, when you type the word "Damiera" you can't even get the keyboard to recognize there is an R on the keyboard. I've even tried holding my finger on the screen, and sliding over the R over and over.. it goes directly from T to E, skipping R all together. Anyone reading this , try it - and see that it actually is a glitch. I have not found a word other than DAMIERA that this glitch appears on though... any usual combination of the IERA seems to work fine, but this is specifically frustrating for me as that is the name of my business 🙂

P.S. !!
I was posting this ON my iPhone when it , yet again, crashed safari. I don't overtax the device in any way, other than try to post on APPLE'S site, in order to address a very annoying glitch -- and the phone crashes again. I know it isn't just my phone, because i've heard nothing but complaints as to how glitchy the 3g actually is... i'm extremely disappointed in the iphone 3g. It shouldn't process slow, freeze or crash every single time I go to use it. Its very discouraging. I do hope these very obvious problems are addressed with future updates, as this device was intended to make the day easier - not more frustrating.

iPhone 3g, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

OMG!!! Thank you for posting this!!! about a month ago over and over and OVER again i tried to type the word theyre and they're. When i tried to type it it would not let me type the R i went to the genius bar and they thought i was crazy. Your not alone on this one... it will def be fixed in an update, at least in my case it was. i am only 15 so i have never heard of the word damiera. But i also can't type it on mine.

Works fine for me. Running 2.0.1 for what it's worth.

EDIT: Actually, it doesn't. I typed the word and instinctively deleted the 't', typed the 'r' and continued on my way. But if you carefully plug along, letter-by-letter, you cannot type it without having to make the correction!

Other words with errors in the last 5 minutes:
Can't type the 'e' in Samiera or Xamiera or Zamiera

So basically, starting with one of those four letters in the bottom left corner (SDZX) followed by 'amier' is an issue 🙂

yup -- you're right. if you backspace, its fine, of course.. but if you carefully type the word DAMIERA out, you'll realize that you cannot type the letter R. thank you for noticing the post.. i too am running the new software, apple store told me to make this post in hopes that the fellows upstairs will notice and fix the glitch in the software updates to come.

I tried it. At first I tried the type the words and i kept getting a t, but I then realised I was just a tad off on my placement. Then it worked fine for me.

My glitch during this experiment was/is that I can not log in to reply on my iPhone 3G. Everytime I tap the login button i get taken to the Create New Account screen. I would create a new account if my email and name were not locked in at this point.

It just caused my safari to crash. I just hard reset the iphone. I don't understand why it keeps jumping to this page. Now Safari keeps crashing! That's pretty crazy. I am goint to do a restore from back up, and see if that fixes Safari.

Well it stuck me in the loop of restores, but I think this might be my fault. My finace'e's phone did the same thing to me this morning when I updated her firmware from 2.0 I got out of the loop by shutting her phone down, and restarting the pc. Each time after the restore it would ask me to set the phone up again, but the phone would be working, and I was wanting to sync it so I could get a new backup.

once this second restore is finished I will see if the phone is working. I had left work to run home and talk to the Fiance'e and when I got back and iTunes was asking me to restore my phone I clicked the restore for backup before I realized that I had started that just before she called to ask me to come home for a minute.

Will report more after restore finishes.

Sure hope that techs are actually trolling these threads, and see that there is an issue with iTunes. I would say it is iTunes and not the phone it's self.

I type Damiet every time 🙂

I think it is some misplaced keys, I have other similar problems, with P & O, I have to backspace to select the correct letter.

In the case of P & O I will always type P for the O, in the case of Damiera I have typed T instead of the R five times in a row ~ no accident on my part, but backspace will always select the correct R [in this case]

I've tended to forget about these as the spell checker gets most right, including the they're as someone else mentioned.

I can confirm that my observances of this phenomenon pre-dates the new software, ver 2.0.1

Before I got my iPhone, web articles were saying that one had to be very, very careful as they typed. They moreorless believed the keys were too close together ~ I suggest they were in fact seeing the behaviour you are describing.

I kept trying it but I kept typing in the wrong letter before the 'r' so it would always work, but if you type them in slowly and don't make a mistake, you are right you can't type the 'r', it's either an 'e' or a 't'. I think there are other words like that too. I know sometimes I am typing a word and it always gets the letter wrong. I assumed that I was hitting the wrong key, but it seems like it's always on the same words. Unfortunately I never noticed it really or which words, but I will keep an eye on that now.
