I have a similar problem - when new ipod touch connected to HP tower computer - it registers as a digital camera - showing up in devices as a scanning object. With only Camera programmes "available" to open the ipod.

However on Sony Vaio laptop - it is immediately recognised as an ipod with full functionality?

As this is brand new - there aren't any photos or videos on the unit.

Help or advice please.

Exactly. Since I took a couple of screen shots (just for fun) whenever I synched it opened iPhoto and it showed my Touch with a blank photo. I then went to (on my Touch) Photos>Photo Albums>Saved Photos>Delete Photo. Once I did that, it no longer opened my photo program on my computer.

Open Image Capture app, from Applications folder, then preferences and in the option to select what to do when a camera is detected, select No Application.

Thats it, it just means when you do connect a camera you will have to open iPhoto or whatever you use manually.

I hadn't noticed you were using Windows, this will stop iPhoto opening for Mac users.
