when i plug in my ipod it doesnt show up in itunes but it does show up in my computer. the problem is its seen as a digital camera. ive tried every usb port on my computer, reinstalling itunes, and switching the autoplay thing to take no action. it still wont show up in itunes though.
I have a similar problem - when new ipod touch connected to HP tower computer - it registers as a digital camera - showing up in devices as a scanning object. With only Camera programmes "available" to open the ipod.
However on Sony Vaio laptop - it is immediately recognised as an ipod with full functionality?
As this is brand new - there aren't any photos or videos on the unit.
Mine does the same, but only when my iPT has screen captures on it.
If you have a screen capture on it (taken by holding down the home button and pressing sleep) it will bring up the Scanner and Camera Wizard when you plug it in.
Exactly. Since I took a couple of screen shots (just for fun) whenever I synched it opened iPhoto and it showed my Touch with a blank photo. I then went to (on my Touch) Photos>Photo Albums>Saved Photos>Delete Photo. Once I did that, it no longer opened my photo program on my computer.
I went to Apple authorized service center and in service center also iPod touch not been recognized.. right now the solution is replacing the iPod touch...
Open Image Capture app, from Applications folder, then preferences and in the option to select what to do when a camera is detected, select No Application.
Thats it, it just means when you do connect a camera you will have to open iPhoto or whatever you use manually.
I hadn't noticed you were using Windows, this will stop iPhoto opening for Mac users.
I seem to have the same problem as you with your HP computer but mine is an HP laptop (Pavilion dv6426us). Looks like its an HP issue. Well.... go figure.
By the way, the HP laptop is my home computer. My iPod Touch works fine on my Mac at work.
Mine is completely clean with nothing on it at all except for the iPod software that came with it. Now, when I got it out of the package yesterday, I did the 2.0 software update on my Mac. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it might... What version of the iPod software are you running?
Its the same for me, whether I use my USB cable or my wife's nano cable. I even tried all of the suggestions on Apple's tech support area including disabling all services except Apple's programs. No good....
But I did give it a try on my wife's Dell laptop. Works like a charm there, just not on my HP laptop.
Hey folks! If your iPod Touch is showing up as a camera on your computer, he's an article to check out. It should resolve your issue! 🙂

I'll give it a shot tonight when I get home, but my iPod Touch comes up as iPod - not listed as an iPod Touch. I'm not sure if this will make a difference but its worth a shot.
