I've got quite a few DVDs ripped as .iso files. I made these files (from DVDs that I own) on an XP PC. They were done using this format because that's what my Pixel Magic media player uses.
Is there any OS X software that'll play these files?
If you have just the .IFO and .VOB files, and not the rest of the files (like the .BUPs), you need to rip the MPEG streams out using something MPEGStreamClip, or whatever.
However, if you have all the files that make up a DVD, place them in folder named VIDEO_TS and make a folder named AUDIO_TS at the same level as VIDEO_TS. Once you do that, they can be played using the OS X DVD Player application.
An .iso file is an
archive file not a media file. Therefore there is no way to "play" them.
Generally the images have to be mounted as a virtual disk. Then the contents of the .iso image can be accessed. I don't know any Mac compatible utilities to do that but I'm sure that some exist somewhere.
Of course, you're right. They are iso image folders, and contain .ifo and .vob files. My media player prefers them in this format, so that's how I ripped them. I've got backups of these files on a USB HDD, and it'd be nice to play them on my iMac.
The iso files, when double clicked, mount as disks. The finder window then shows a Video_TS folder. This contains all the .ifo, .vob, and .bup files. There's no Audio_TS folder. The files are currently on an NTFS volume, so I'm copying one over to my boot drive so that I can try and add the Audio_TS folder. Not sure if I can do that to a disk image?
