your iTunes account before you purchase it.
After it is donwloaded and installed, look in C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates\
This directory may be hidden so you need to set Windows to view hidden files folders).
Look for a file named something like
iPod1,12.0_5A347Restore.ipsw
In teh file name, the *iPod 1,1* is the touch and
2.0 is the firmware version.
If you cannot find the directory, you can use Windows search and search for
ipsw.
This is the actual file used by iTunes to update your touch.
Burn this file to a CD so you can put it on your computer if you need to restore.
