Alarm clock doesn't ring when there's an alert on the home screen

I use my iPhone alarm clock to wake up every day. Lately I've noticed that if I receive a text message, phone call or voicemail during the night, or if there is a calendar alert (reminder: mom's birthday) waiting for me, the alarm will not go off. Whenever there is an unacknowledged alert on the home screen, the alarm does not work.
Is there a setting I can change to fix this, or is Apple planning to correct this? If not, is there an app that doesn't have this problem?

I noticed the same thing happen when I would get a text message over night. It's a bit frustrating when I have my Google Calendar send me event reminders but then my alarm doesn't go off to wake me up and I sleep right through the event. The problem still exists in the iPhone 2.0.1 firmware.

Can you put it into Airplane Mode while sleeping? Would this keep alerts from popping up? If not maybe you could set the alerts for times when you are not asleep.

I use my iPhone as a pager too. It's critical for me to receive SMS alerts. However, because SMS alerts both can't have custom notifications and don't repeat, its very easy to sleep through them. As an added bonus, if I sleep through getting paged in the middle of the night, my morning alarm also doesn't sound.

This is so awful its verging on deal breaker for me and the iPhone 😟

I just ran into this issue today. I woke up 1 hour later than I should have.
Apple needs to fix this...
I just finished looking through APP Store but no other Alarm Clock apps have been released yet.

This issue has been present since 1.0 of the iPhone. I've submitted a bug report after every single firmware update. I have absolutely no idea why this is still an issue. Its an obvious bug.

I KNOW.
It drives me crazy. I put it in airplane mode and boom, a calender event pops up and then I sleep through class.
Or sometimes, it doesn't ring and rings an hour late or so.
I'm discovering that it's the most important application because everything else depends on me waking up on time.

How can I make money for mp3's or service even if I can't get anywhere on time!
What's going on, fix this!

Still fails for me. This problem is posted all over thet internet and many other forums, yet apple wont address it. Its NOT user error.
