Ringer volume keeps changing itself

The upgrade will NOT fix this.

The issue is, in short, that the genius who designed the software for this phone decided it was smart to directly tie your iPod volume to the Ringer volume.

Turn your ringer to full, then go to your ipod, play a song, and turn down the volume.

Now go back to your ringer volume and it will probably be down.

I hope they fix it as I think this is THE single WORST bug with this phone.

I dont agree that is the only problem. My Ring volume keeps changing and i don't use the ipod or play any music on my phone

Same here—it usually changes itself after a text message, phone call (specially incoming calls), and after quitting apps. I missed so many calls already despite of it. So, I am using more the vibrate mode to reduce missed calls. Also, I am crossing my fingers, while hopping to see an update soon to address this issue and the others that came with the 2.0.1 update (such as poor wi-fi and 3G signal, and so on).

But just know that it is in fact tied to the iPod volume.

If you play your iPod, make sure when done, you put the volume all the way up.

I can confirm that even when changing the ipod volume(which works for awhile it still eventually resets itself...This needs to be adressed...I am frustrated I can't reliably set my volume.

I am also having this problem. Even without using the iPod throughout the day I will go into my settings and see that my ringer is now halfway. But using the side buttons..shows it is turned up full.

Please fix this 😟

Me too, it's like the iphone fairy turns it down for you...weird...

anybody find out what is going on here? No matter what the ipod does the sound keeps going to the same spot...about one third/halfway up...I hope this is patched soon...

I have had this same problem for the last month since purchasing my new 3G iPhone. I finally got fed up and called AppleCare (iPhone techs) and was told they didn't know anything about this. However, with the tech on the phone I backed up and synced my iPhone and then reset the phone back to factory settings. I synced the phone again after the reset and have had no more problems since. The whole process was about 15 mins but was well worth the wait to have the ringer volume stay in place.

did you do a restore from backup or set it up as new...with all my junk, it would take alot longer then 15 minutes, but I'm willing to try if it truly solved the problem...

Don't do the restore. I actually tried the restore as new phone which did nothing and gave me quite a hassle in getting the phone set back up the way it had been. My wife is currently using my original iphone which was set up as a new phone for her and then updated to the 2.0 software which gave her the same volume issue. So it's a bug in the 2.0/2.0.1 software and hopefully it won't get overlooked by the other issues that are going on.

Any ideas why the ringer icon will show up randomly when using the phone? I can be just surfing the web and all of a sudden the ringer icon displays.

i've noticed in the morning after each full charge, the volume on my ringer changes from full ring volume to 3/4.

i hope this problem will fixed sometime soon.

Anyone know if 2.02 fixes this bug? Thanks in advance.

2.0.2 did not fix the problem for me. The ringtone volume went down when I lowered the iPod volume. I'm still hoping that some of the bugs causing it to go down at random, without touching any of the volume switches, have been fixed.
