i have a 5th generation ipod. ive had it for about three years and a couple weeks ago it started freezing up alot and ive had to reset it multiple time. and ive even restored it twice. and three days ago it went dead (nothing unusual) but when i went to charge it, the screen went white and an ipod with a frown on its face and x's for eyes showed up with www.apple.com/support/ipod below it. and everytime i try to charge it or plug it into my computer that shows up again. and i have already tried holding down the center and menu button, it doesnt work. any suggestions??
There is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon or the folder and ! icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty but as your iPod is 3 years old that probably isn't an issue.
I am having the same problem. I have had my 5th generation ipod for about six months now and i made sure i took good care of it. The ipod was working fine, but now when i try charging it in any sort of way, it doesn't respond at all. The screen just stays blank. I have checked the hold button, I have tried to reset is by pressing the center button and the menu button at the same time. The computer doesn't even make the dinging noise it normally does when u plug it in. It isn't showing up on the hard drive either. I have also gone in and made it so all the usb ports are not on the mode where the turn off to save energy. This is really frstrtating and any help would be very, very appreciated.
Because you've only had it for 5 months, I would most definately take it back. I had a similar problem 3 months into my one and they replaced it without any problems.
