disc ejects before burn finished

I am burning 30 copies of a graduation through iDVD. The movie is over two hours going on a dual layer dvd. Around one-third of the time the dvd will eject anywhere from 1 - 30 minutes before the burn in complete. I have tried stopping and waiting a few hours to let my computer cool off but this does not seem to help. I have 65 gig left on my hard-drive so I don't think that's an issue.

Are you burning from a disk image? If so does the disk image play satisfactorily in iDVD Player throughout? What media are you using and at what speed are you burning? It's generally recommend around here that Verbatim DVD-R is the best media to use and to burn at the slowest speed possible.

What is the content of the project? If movie files what was the format of the source material?

I am creating a disk image right now; I have been burning right from iDVD. The content is a 2' 10" long quicktime movie and one 5" slideshow also in quicktime. The DVDs are dual layer memorex 8.5 gig. I am burning on the fastest setting I think. Oops!
So I am making the disk image right now and will attempt to burn a dvd from that and see what happens.

I believe memorex is also well regarded if my memory serves me. So the content is 2 hrs 10 minutes and that's why you have to go to dual layer. I'm about to hit the wall with my knowledge but there are others here that can ask the correct questions to get you on the road to completing the project. I'm wondering if the ejection is taking place at the point where the second layer starts. I've hear of some problems with that but, again, it's been awhile since I read the posts. Make sure the disk image plays through OK in DVD Player. If not then it's probably a media issue.

OK I made the disc image and created a burn folder and burnt a memorex dvd on 4x speed this morning. The dvd finished burning successfully...but it wouldn't play on my tv. I tried a second time to and got a 0x80020022 error. I just tried a third time burning at 2x speed, it finished but it won't play. My computer seems to be enjoying eating these expensive dual layer dvds like candy!! 😉
The disc image will play on my iMac in DVD player and the two dvds that finished will play on my iMac in DVD player also.
One thing I thought of was my dvd player, it has played memorex dvds I've made just fine before though. I am going to go try playing the dvd on a neighbor's dvd player now.

Is shouldn't. Just be sure to include the menu time in the overall playing time calculations. If you use an audio track for a menu I think the entire length of the audio track is taken into consideration even if you only select a part of it. I'm not positive of that but if you're cutting it close I'm make sure you plan on the low side. F Shippey or SDMacuser should be able to pin that down.
