transferring podcasts to ipod touch

for some reason, am unable to transfer podcasts from itunes (v.7.7.1) to my ipod touch (v.2.0.1). itunes will transfer music, but podcasts will not. when dragging podcasts to ipod touch icon, plus sign appears. when i release the button to begin transfer, plus sign disappears, transfer does not initiate.

saw post suggesting that podcasts are being transferred as a music genre as opposed to as a podcast. this does not seem to be the case with me. podcasts are not on ipod touch. podcasts are not corrupted (will play from itunes no problems.) there is plenty of memory on ipod touch.

any ideas?
