Yeah, uh huh. He installed it and you never even knew it was there. Never used it. Never even looked at it!

Excuse my skepticism but come on.

Now that we've got that out of the way I reckon you should be happy that your friend installed a version of Logic on your computer (As a surprise birthday present no less...) because you got to use it, realised you liked it and then went out and actually BOUGHT it!

Apple isn't as stupid as you might think.

Search into the tutorial on completely wiping Logic 7 off your computer (There's even a paper on it somewhere here at Apple) and you good to go.

Take care,

R.

Looks like you need to reinstall your whole system.

Grab a LARGE drink of your choice, a few hours, and have at it.

And THEN get after your friend. Illegal software *****.

Cheers

oldbetseysatan i understand you skepticism however your a lil backwards on that... i actually bought logic while out an about on my b-day and had been talking about picking it up for some weeks as it is the program we tend to use in my other studios (friends in other studios run it and that is why i wanted it in the first place) the macbook pro was a new purchase and my friend is somewhat of a computre junkie so he took it upon himself to set up my software for me while i was out o town... and yes he ran the program a few times to check it's sync with my other hardware... however when i returned home i didn't even want to bother with it as the whole reason i put off switching to a soft DAW was I'm paranoid about crashes so i imediately dragged the logic folder to the trash bin and erased it. (hope that is all i need to do) I'm not big on the idea of cracked software for the simple fact that i play out often and the last thing i need is for my brand new mac to crash. suspect story... sure i can see that but turth... unfortunately is. everything seems to be working now but i need to figure out how to switch my content (the 40 gigs of audio ect.) from the system drive to external drive...

Do what everyone else here said, but, the good thing is you DON'T need to reinstall your system though. I would recommend downloading a very small application called DeInstaller (sometimes labelled DesInstaller). It will run and locate all of the package files on your computer and then you can go and find all of the ones associated with logic studio and delete them so you can cleanly install your new copy. Included in those packages files are:

everything for Soundtrack Pro 2, Compressor, Mainstage, Logic Pro 8, Waveburner, Logic Node, Surround Impulse one, stereo impulse one, apple prores 422, all audio content for soundtrack pro, exs24 library stuff, the impulse response utility, all jampack stuff, anything having to do w/ remix tools, rhythm section, shared logic studio help files, ultrabeat, world music, xtreme analog and digital library stuff, and that's about it. Go through and remove all of those packages using DesInstaller and you will be able to cleanly install logic 8 without reinstalling your system.

That all sounds like a lot but it really only takes a few minutes.

bee jay yup thats kinda what went down... i understood what he was tryin to do for me an all it's just he should have checked with me first... I'm a longtime (for a 28 yrold) hardware user so the whole software side of things is a new game for me and he was trying to jump start me but yeah I never touch another mans gear with out direct instruction... even if it's just his mpc. but oh well.)
